ProCleanLakes Shines at WETPOL2025
From 7–11 September the WETPOL2025 Conference in Gdańsk brought together leading researchers and practitioners working on constructed wetlands and aquatic ecosystem processes. WETPOL 2025 At this vibrant gathering, project partner alchemia‑nova (ANRI) showcased the latest insights from ProCleanLakes, emphasising how nature‑based solutions can be applied for the restoration and sustainable management of European lakes.
Coordinated by BOKU – University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, ProCleanLakes unites 18 partners from 11 countries to advance innovative, scalable solutions that support healthier freshwater ecosystems. By combining cutting‑edge research with practical applications, the project demonstrates how collaborative, science‑driven approaches can help restore water quality, biodiversity and resilience in Europe’s lakes.

The full Book of Abstracts from WETPOL2025 is available here: Book of Abstracts (WETPOL
In the book of abstracts you’ll find the contribution by ProCleanLakes titled “Implementing nature‑based solutions for the restoration of European natural lakes: insights from ProCleanLakes three demonstration sites”. This – along with other presentations – highlights the role of nature‑based solutions (NbS) in lake restoration, including actions such as riparian buffer restoration, native aquatic vegetation re‑establishment, managed wetland creation, shoreline renaturalisation and bioremediation of heavy‑metal contamination.

Stay tuned for upcoming updates on how ProCleanLakes is turning sustainable lake management into a tangible reality across Europe!
